Feline Health Care

Regular wellness care will keep your cat healthy for a long lifetime with you and your family. Brookdale Animal Hospital’s wellness care program for cats includes:

  • An annual physical examination
  • Dental exam
  • Regular vaccinations to combat contagious diseases
  • Flea and tick testing and prevention
  • Heartworm testing and prevention
  • For outdoor cats and cats with increased risks, we also recommend Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia testing

We form an individualized wellness care plan for your cat that is based on factors including your cat’s breed, physical condition, lifestyle, and prior immunization history. Vaccines have proven important in preventing serious disease in cats. We will design a personalized vaccine plan for every cat, maximizing protection against the diseases your pet is likely to be exposed to while using the fewest vaccines possible. Our current vaccine recommendations are based on up-to-date research and the incidence of disease in our area.

Nutritional counseling is also an important part of wellness care for your cat. We will monitor your cat’s weight so that we can recommend modifications in diet or exercise if necessary. A healthy body weight is important for your cat to have a long, healthy life.

Heartworm

It’s possible for cats to get heartworm, too.  Heartworm is a worm that resides in the heart and lungs of an infected cat. It’s spread by mosquitoes that transmit heartworm larva from cat to cat when bitten. The larva then develop into adult worms that will eventually cause heart disease and respiratory problems.

Luckily, this is a preventable disease with a number of effective monthly heartworm medications available at our hospital. When administered year-round, these products provide outstanding protection against heartworm disease. Our team will help guide you through the process of selecting which product and prevention plans are best suited for you and your feline friend.

Professional Dental Cleanings

Dental care is very important for your cat. During your cat’s wellness exam, your veterinarian may suggest a professional dental cleaning for your cat. For more information about our dentistry services, please click on Pet Dental Care listed in services from the main menu.
